About this Study

Frietas et al.,2021 found that 7-dehydrocholesterol (7-DHC) is an inhibitor of ferroptosis. This paper evaluated the mechanism of 7-DHC and found that its unique structure contributed to its function as a ferroptotic suppressor. Also, they showed that

About the Study
Patients with sepsis show an acquired platelet function defect with loss of GPVI receptor responsiveness. Platelet GPVI dysfunction is evident already at early disease onset and restores when patients recover.

Dr. Dasgupta will be presenting an article (attached) revealing that cold-induced activation of brown adipose tissue significantly decreases blood glucose level and markedly inhibit cancer-associated aerobic glycolysis in cancer cells, leading to inhibition of solid tumor growth. This finding has the potential to be an effective approach for cancer treatment.

Journal Club is back and kicking off our first session with Dr. Vinod Vijayan this Thursday, August 25th at 2:45 PM.

Dr. Vijayan will be presenting an article (attached) about Thrombocytopenia, which is common in severe sepsis and is associated with an increased risk of mortality. This study reveals that platelet pyroptosis initiated during infection promotes a feedforward loop of neutrophil-mediated inflammation that worsens outcomes during sepsis.
