Awesome!

So the BCM 5k, kids 1k and health fair is held at helix park on October 10th. There will be free parking. The kids 1k is at 8:30 am and is $5 to register, parents/friends are totally welcome to run with them and strollers are welcomed as well. Hi everyone,

Hope you are all having a great summer. We are recruiting facilitators for the upcoming second-year medical student course Transitions to Clerkships and are excited to invite you to participate as a small group facilitator!

We will have eight two-hour small group sessions covering topics of EHR navigation, medication reconciliation, clinical note writing, oral presentations, EBM, shared decision-making, the clinical learning environment, and mistreatment. All sessions are prepared ahead of time, and there is little to no additional training needed.

* THANK YOU to the many section members for contributing to an energizing retreat with over 80 participants live and virtual - and extra kudos to those who travelled in from Sugar Land, Vintage AND the Woodlands! Our admin team (led by Adam Garcia, Raji Karna, and Karla Madrid) was incredible in the advance organizing & day of implementation of the multitude of activities. Our small group leaders were effective facilitators and we will be sending out notes/highlights from the strategic planning. APEX* OPPORTUNITIES

APEX is the required 4th year medical student capstone course at BCM. The course is divided into different educational modules. Our GIM faculty lead many of these modules. Dear BCM SGIM,

Your SGIM colleagues are coordinating the "Common Overnight Calls" didactic session for the medical student APEX Course again this March and we need facilitators!

This session is designed to help prepare MS4 students for night shifts during their intern year. This module is a two-hour didactic session taking place from 3-5 pm on Tuesday, March 4th in person at the BCM medical school main campus. Both these roles are fairly simple and not labor-intensive.

As they say, "it has been a minute" since I have sent a message-from-the-chief so here goes. I have been reflecting on events over the past year in this season of gratitude. Recently, I had the unenviable (and unusual) experience of pronouncing my young patient deceased at her home. I had become close with her family so they notified me that she had just decided to transition to hospice care. I was heading over to support my patient and her family; however, by the time I arrived, my patient had died
