I would like to share that Ilse Loza, Supervisor, Supply Chain, will be leaving CCM, with her last day being July 31, 2026. Since joining CCM on April 22, 2019, Ilse has made significant contributions to our organization and has been a dedicated leader within the Supply Chain team. Throughout her tenure, she successfully guided her team through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, helping ensure our operations continued uninterrupted during an unprecedented time. Her ability to collaborate across departments and maintain a strong focus on customer service contributed greatly to the success of these efforts.

Another round of certification courses will start on March 27th! I’m pleased to report that we’ve had multiple individuals from the 2025 cohort sit for and pass their certification exams! If you think you’d benefit from a structured study environment, sign-ups for the next cohort are now open! Classes will be hybrid for your flexibility. Attend in-person or join us online if you're unable to break away from your facility. There is also an option for self-study. If there's enough interest, we will hold LATG classes.

I want to share an important update regarding changes within CCM. Today, reductions in force (RIFs) were implemented within CCM, and all affected employees have been personally notified if their positions were eliminated. It was a difficult decision, and we recognize the impact it has on our colleagues and our community.

A grab-and-go market will be held at Morrison Café at main Baylor Dec. 23 starting at 2:30 p.m. Foods available may include deli meat, produce, cheeses, prepared food like pre-made salads and sandwiches, chips and other snacks and more. You should have received an email earlier this week regarding an assigned mandatory training titled "CCM Annual Safety Training - Hearing Conservation, Laboratory Animal Allergens, Personal Protective Equipment". All CCM staff members are required to complete this course by April 15, 2025. It has come to my attention that the course is not recognizing completion and allowing you to progress to the quiz. SF Administration has been made aware of this issue and is working to resolve this so that you can complete the course by the April 15th deadline. The current ETA of completion is EOD.

CCM has completed our transition to Peroxigard RTU disinfectant for rodent housing areas. You should use Peroxigard in place of cdox for sanitizing the transfer station / hood and other work surfaces. Animal facilities will not continue providing alcohol when the current stock is depleted. If you use alcohol as part of your routine animal facility work, please plan to bring it to the facility along with your other supplies.

Tech Week is fast approaching! This year's events will occur from January 28 - February 3, 2024. One of our scheduled events will be a mascot contest. The goal is to design and model the best team mascot using standard PPE items. You can pre-plan your design, but you will only have 5 minutes to assemble and model your mascot during the contest. You can also utilize items from home, BUT beware; any additional items you use must be able to be considered an enrichment item

A reminder that the FY24 Annual Compliance Education "is now available for all BCM faculty, residents, staff and students. Those who are exempt include non-paid employees, anyone on BCM approved Leave of Absence and first year students at the School of Medicine. It will run through Sept. 30, 2023. This year's topic will focus on going "Back to the Basics". The education will be available through BCM's online learning
Beginning January 2024, paycheck frequency for all Baylor College of Medicine faculty, staff, and trainees will transition from a bi-weekly to a semi-monthly schedule as the College continues to modernize business systems. You will still receive pay checks on Dec. 8, 2023 and Dec. 22, 2023 according to the current biweekly schedule. The initial pay period for the transition begins Dec. 17, 2023. The first paycheck following the new frequency will be issued Jan. 8, 2024.
Evaluations must be completed no later than TODAY Sept. 18, 2023 (11:59 p.m.)

Howdy CCM! Our next meeting will be the 60th anniversary of Texas Branch AALAS and I'm planning a big to do! The theme of the meeting is "Climbing the Ladder in Lab Animal Medicine". I chose this theme because I personally am a product of "climbing the ladder" in this amazing field. I've been in the industry for almost 20 years. Through work experience and continued education, I was able to become y'alls Laboratory Director and I absolutely love it. As CCM is my work home, I would be honored if one of my colleagues won the TBAALAS Logo Contest.
This month's all staff safety training will cover "Infiltrator and Piggybacking".

We hosted a Fear Factor challenge and had a great turnout!
11 people volunteered for the Fear Factor Challenge. The food they were challenged to eat included common enrichment items that we offer to our animals at BCM.
Rodent bacon softies, dried oatmeal, meal worms, and dietgel were some of the items they had to eat.
* Yesterday marked the beginning of International Laboratory Animal Technician Week, and we started it out with breakfast for our Sunday staff. Pete Cullen, Director of Operations, grabbed breakfast for the Sunday crew and delivered them to each building.
* Today was breakfast taco day. Mona Jaffari, CCM Path Lab Director, filled her truck up with Brothers Tacos and delivered them nice and hot to us!

Ms. Latonya Toussant has devoted more than 16 years to research administration, learning many of the functional areas. During that period, she also completed her Bachelor of Science degree in sociology from the University of Houston Downtown. I am pleased to announce that she is being promoted to senior coordinator. Her new role will include oversight in the billing and collections and lead trainer for new hires and/or cross training for existing team members.
